Rapid surfing is on the rise in Germany and across Europe – and now the European Surfing Federation has announced plans to host the first-ever European Rapid Surfing Championships in 2026.
Since 2019, the DWV (German Surfing Association) has been hosting national championships in this young sport.
The event once again confirmed that rapid surfing is on the rise in Germany and across Europe – and now, rapid surfing has officially become a recognized European discipline.
"A milestone – rapid surfing is now officially a European discipline," says Michael Zirlewagen, President of the DWV. "Together with many dedicated individuals, clubs, and associations from several European countries, we've worked hard to make this happen – and it's a major step toward the professionalization of the sport on a European level."
Switzerland’s Surf Federation Swiss Surfing is ESF’s partner for the organization in the first two years 2026 and 2027. Details about organization board, place, date and time as well as qualification and registration will follow.
