The German Championships (DM) in Rapid Surfing were held from July 24th to 26th, 2026, on the enercity Leinewelle in Hanover. Marking a historic premiere as part of the major multi-sport event 'Die Finals 2026', the competition drew a record-breaking crowd to the old town of the Lower Saxony state capital. Germany's elite rapid surfers battled for the national titles in a stadium-like atmosphere, broadcast via live streams as well as on TV by ARD and ZDF.

A new era in stationary wave riding began in the spring of 2026 as the German Surfing Federation (DWV) officially launched the first-ever German National Rapid Surf Team (Rapid-Surf Nationalkader). This ground-breaking development marks the transition of rapid surfing from an urban subculture into a fully structured, highly professional competitive sport. Designed to provide systematic support, intensive training camps, and specialized athletic coaching, the establishment of the national team ensures that Germany's elite wave riders are fully prepared to dominate the global stage.

Organized by the German Surfing Federation (DWV), this event ushered in a brand-new era for stationary wave riding in Germany. For the first time in the federation's history, the rankings achieved here directly determined the qualification spots for the German Championship at the prestigious "Finals" in Hanover.

For the very first time, renowned rapid surf coach Jeroen Kuijer visited Rheinriff, delivering an intensive and inspiring coaching weekend. The training was structured into four groups of six surfers each, allowing for a focused and hands-on coaching experience.

The Surf Open Lyon 2025 is set to make waves this November at City Surf Park Lyon, home to the largest indoor surf wave in Europe. This exclusive invite-only competition will bring together some of the continent’s best rapid surfers for a spectacular showdown of skill, style, and creativity. Unlike open events, participation is limited to selected riders – so only the top names in the scene will be hitting the wave.

On the last weekend of September, Freiburg turned into a surf hotspot:70 athletes battled for the rapid surfing crown – accompanied by a livestream, podcast coverage, and a festive atmosphere.
