Organized by the German Surfing Federation (DWV), this event ushered in a brand-new era for stationary wave riding in Germany. For the first time in the federation's history, the rankings achieved here directly determined the qualification spots for the German Championship at the prestigious "Finals" in Hanover.
The event in Munich was defined by a spirit of athletic renewal. In the spring of 2026, the DWV launched an official Rapid Surf National Team for the first time. While several top athletes were already pre-qualified based on their consistent performances from the previous year, the Munich event was all about awarding the highly coveted remaining team slots and the 48 starting spots for the German Championship.
The elite of the German river surfing scene gathered at the Jochen Schweizer Arena. The competitions were held across six different divisions to provide a platform for top professionals, youth talent, and veterans alike:
- Open Men & Open Women: The premier divisions featuring Germany's strongest surfers (including a tight field of 19 men and 18 women among the favorites).
- Juniors – M & W (U16): The youth divisions for talents aged 16 or younger in 2026. They received special athletic support with a view toward the upcoming European Championship.
- Masters – M & W (O35): The divisions for experienced athletes aged 35 and older.
